Vance Kisses

Vance Kisses

Today’s post is going to pack a little heat! Can you handle it? One thing I always get comments on is how much readers enjoy the kisses in the Of Witches and Warlocks series. Those of you who followed my last tour know I’m a big fan of kissing! So today I have a very SPECIAL TREAT in store for you. I will be featuring a kiss from each of the books…yep…1 through 5!! I worked hard to choose kisses that would keep things spoiler free. I will try to keep things brief, but that’s sort of difficult since Vance doesn’t do things briefly! LOL I hope you will enjoy!

Kiss #1: The Trouble with Spells

His touch only increased my reaction to him and I reached out to pull him closer to me, enveloping him in a deep passionate kiss, opening my mouth to his invasion.

I released everything I had pent up inside of me back into him, and he wrapped his arms tightly around me, answering my intensity, before his hands slid up to tangle in my hair. His mouth pressed even harder against my lips and he continued to devour them.

My pulse was racing, on fire, and I could feel the same emanating from him. It was like someone had lit a match to gasoline, causing an explosion we had no control over, and I could think of only one thing. I wanted more.

I didn’t even know how it had happened, but somehow that infernal quilt separating us finally got pushed out of the way and he moved, laying his body over the top of mine. I welcomed his heated weight against me, and my hands found their way up under his shirt. I ran them feverishly over his hard muscled back, pressing him even closer to me.

His lips left my mouth, sliding over my face to the skin of my neck, and he bit me lightly, trailing little love bites down to my collar bone and I couldn’t help letting out a soft moan, my body naturally arching up against him when his tongue flicked out, licking a sensitive spot there.

Kiss #2: The Demon Kiss

Then kiss me.”

I knew I was tempting fate with this request, but I had to know how he would react.

He hesitated for a moment before he finally pulled me to him and kissed me gently.

I didn’t close my eyes. I wanted to see his reaction, and I found he didn’t close his eyes either, instead choosing to look deep into my mine.

He rolled me over suddenly, so I was on my back and he was leaning over me. He just looked at me for a minute, stroking my hair, and then he brought his mouth down to mine and kissed me like he was starving to death.

I felt the passion between us heat up quickly, but still I didn’t take my eyes off him. I saw the red color flash through his irises, signaling that his desires could be getting out of control.

He didn’t move from me, though, continuing to kiss me. As his fervor began to grow his eyes became redder still.

I watched him, until he left my face to trail his kisses down my throat to the purple mark that was so clearly visible on my neck. I closed my eyes and let him nibble slightly at the spot before he moved back up to my lips.

I reopened my eyes to stare into his flaming ones.

“You’re playing with fire you know,” he commented casually, brushing his lips against mine.

“Yes, I know.” I stared up at him.

“Why tempt fate? Or me for that matter?” He pulled back a little bit from me so he could look at me.

“Because, if you were going to lose it and do something awful to me, you’d have done it by now. You have more control over yourself than you think.”

“So you’re testing me then?”

“Yes.”

He started kissing me again. This time a little more roughly, passionately. His hands tangled in my hair, occasionally leaving to run up and down my arms, stroking them.

I wrapped my arms around him, pulling him down against me tightly, kissing him back with everything I had.

I heard him let out a small groan, and he pulled back away from my mouth so he could kiss my cheek.

“We need to stop this,” he said and moved back down my neck to suck on that same spot again.

“No. I don’t want to.” I held him against me even harder.

I knew I was supposed to be just testing him, but I could feel that control slipping as he sucked at my throat.

“Don’t stop,” I said, breathless.

Kiss #3: Blood of the White Witch

He looked like some sort of mythical god standing in front of me with the very air crackling and swirling around him.

Suddenly his fingers felt very cold on my lips, and I looked down to see that the tips of them had ice on them also, and I realized my powers were transferring to him as well.

“Look at the two of us.” He grinned seductively while continuing to run his thumb over my lower lip. “Fire and Ice … literally.”

“How are you doing this?” I asked him.

“I’m not. It’s this place. It’s intensifying everything,” he replied dipping in to replace his thumb with his ever so hot lips.

Another shock of power rolled through me again, and my knees buckled so badly I would have fallen except he held me so firmly pinned there with his body. He kissed me feverishly, twisting his free hand into my hair, and I could feel the heat of his magic roll through me with the contact.

He burned so hot it was almost unbearable for me. I had never realized how cold my magic felt before this point, but getting to experience him in this way was shedding a whole new light on him for me.

He kissed me for a long, long time until I started to notice that both of our lips were becoming icy as well.

He broke the kiss with a laugh.

“We’re going to have to stop this, or you’re going to turn me to a block of ice.” He grinned.

“I don’t think that’s possible since my insides are currently on fire with your magic,” I breathed heavily.

“This has certainly been an interesting exchange of power between the two of us, hasn’t it?” he said, his gaze flitting over my face.

“Yes, it has been very enlightening,” I agreed.

He let out a sigh, leaning his forehead against mine, and I stared deeply into his blue eyes.

“I think I want to kiss you here all night long,” he said.

“That sounds divine,” I replied, watching him.

“Does it?” he asked, quirking an eyebrow at me slightly. “I’ve never been so hot and cold all at the same time before in my life! I’m afraid if I continued, you might freeze off some of my body parts!” He winked, and I laughed out loud at him.

It was then that I noticed he actually had frost on his eyebrows, and I smiled, reaching up to brush it off.

“I guess we could always take the kissing someplace less magical,” I suggested to him.

“Kissing you is always magical, Portia, no matter where we are. And what tends to follow it is even more so.”

“You know what I mean,” I said, shoving at his shoulder slightly with my free hand.

He just laughed, swinging me up into his arms. He proceeded to carry me, electrical storm and all, to the edge of the circle.

Kiss #4: The Dark Rising

He could still feel the connection between us I realized as I stared up at him. But I didn’t have time to contemplate the meaning of that because he leaned in, dipping down to kiss me on the mouth, touching me only with his lips and nothing else.

I closed my eyes and savored his soft and tender touch, not even able to breathe as an explosion of sparks rushed through my body, just like they always had whenever he'd kissed me in the past.

He pulled away from me suddenly, and I glanced up to look at him, seeing him staring at me with a strange emotion in his eyes.

I held still not moving an inch while I waited for him to decide what he was feeling.

It only took a second to make up his mind.

He reached out and grabbed me to him, wrapping one arm around my waist and reaching up to thread the other hand into my hair. His lips found mine again, meeting me with the same intensity of days gone by, his tongue coaxing my mouth open in our old familiar dance.

He kissed me long and hard, almost frantically, for several moments. Then the hand which was tangled in my hair, softly yanked my head to the side, and his lips left mine to work his way over my cheek. He trailed down my neck to his favorite spot, licking over the sensitive area once before he closed his mouth over it to begin sucking hard, so hard I knew he would leave a mark.

My heart was pounding, but I didn’t stop him. I wanted him to want me.

He moved back to my mouth, and I wound my arms around his neck, running my fingers into his damp hair.

I found my knees backed up against the bed and he pushed me until we both fell over, bouncing onto its soft surface together.

Kiss #5: Possession of Souls

“I’ve failed you in every way possible!” his voice wrenched into an anguished sound and a haunted look of agony replaced the anger in his eyes as tears immediately appeared back in them again.

“Oh, Vance,” I called out to him, pulling my limbs from his grasp and grabbing his face once more before crushing my lips to his.

He answered me instantly, wrapping his arms around my body and rolling me over so that he leaned over the top of me. He kissed me with a wild desperation I had never felt from him before, like a man who was drowning, struggling for his last breath, and I could feel the wetness of his tears as they fell from his eyes to mingle with my own.

He ravaged my mouth until I was sure it was bruised from the assault before he lifted his head to kiss the damp trails on my cheeks, moving down until his face was cradled into the crook my neck.

“I can’t lose you again, Portia,” he said, his voice muffled against my skin. He finally let loose then and gave into the sobs, letting them rack his body.

I just held him against me, not speaking and let him cry while I cried with him, stroking my fingers over his hair and down his neck as I tried to comfort him. I'd never seen him like this before, so unsure, so defeated, and I had to admit it scared me more than a little. He had always been the strong and confident one.

Well there you have it folks! If that doesn’t excite you…I don’t know what will!!

Excerpt:
Before I could flip on the light, Vance suddenly grabbed me from behind, turning me to face him so he could kiss me again. I wrapped my arms around him and he pushed me backward, never breaking his kiss with me while he moved in the general direction of the door. My back hit the wall when we reached it, but he didn’t stop kissing me. His hands were everywhere, in my hair, on my face, down my body, around my waist.
I disconcertedly searched for the door behind me.
"I love you," he said to me in the darkness just as my hand found the knob, and I noticed his eyes were glowing again.
"I love you too," I replied, twisting the handle. The door popped open with abruptness and we fell though the opening together onto the kitchen floor.
I started laughing and he followed suit.
"Are you okay?" he asked, his body strewn out across the top of me.
"Yes," I replied in a fit of giggles. "Are you?"
"I’m feeling pretty good right about now," he said with his sexy grin smiling back at me.
Someone in the room cleared their throat. We both glanced up to find my dad standing over us with an amused look.
"It’s nice to see things are getting back to normal around here," he said. "Surely though, there are better places than the kitchen floor."
I must've blushed twelve shades of red and Vance quickly hopped off of me, unable to keep the laughter from spilling out of him. He reached a hand out, pulling me up behind him.
"I would say I’m sorry about that," Vance said, turning to my dad. "But I’m not." He pulled me up against him and kissed me lightly one more time before he reached out to smooth some of my tangled hair.
My dad smiled at us. "As weird as this may sound, I wasn’t unhappy to see it," he replied with a knowing look.

Praise for The Dark Rising:

“Wow! What a trip this book was … a roller coaster ride of emotions, The Dark Rising turns out to be Vance and Portia's biggest challenge yet. There are so many twists and turns in this book, you will not be able to put in down! I'm not sure how much longer I can wait until I read the final book in this series!” ~Tishia Mackey, Paranormal Opinion

"Dark and deadly dangerous. This fourth installment in the fantastic Of Witches and Warlocks series is filled with love and passion and loyalty. Twists and turns abound, leading to a completely unexpected conclusion. I just couldn't put it down!" ~ Kim Deister, The Caffeinated Diva

“Once again, Lacey Weatherford has demonstrated her ability to craft a magnificent tale that is dark and dangerous, but filled with love and hope. Of Witches and Warlocks continues with The Dark Rising and Wow! You are not ready for this one! Hold on for the ride of your life! Wonderfully written. Couldn't put it down!” ~ Beverly Sharp, The Wormhole Book Blog

“Lacey Weatherford cast a spell on me ever since she penned The Trouble With Spells. The Dark Rising is about recovery, recollection and reconnection. There is heartbreak, hope, action, and blindsiding twists to satisfy any reader, but it is Weatherford's signature style of being such an unabashedly romantic that has me firmly attached and invested in these characters.” ~ Laurie Treacy, Reader Girls

"You can't help but fall in love with all the characters. There is this raw vitality in them that just appeals to us all! This epic journey is sure to leave you breathless and wondering when you decided to sit on this roller coaster of emotions!" - Sana Noor from Breathing Books

"Watch out world...while everyone has been giving gushy sighs over Edward and Jacob, a new hot bad boy has arrived on the scene. Be prepared to lose your heart all over again to the sexy confidence and swagger of Vance Mangum. If you love the romance of the Vampire Academy series, or the evil deliciousness of The Vampire Diaires, you do not want to miss The Dark Rising. This book takes the Of Witches and Warlocks series from AWESOME to EPIC!" Belinda Boring, The Bookish Snob & The Romance Reviews.

“Think what you want, but YOU ARE HIM! I've already been through hell because of you, and I don’t need you or your pompous attitude to add to it!” I turned and stormed off again, leaving him behind.
“Wait!” he called after me. I stopped, taking a deep breath trying to calm myself.
“What?” I asked, turning back around.

Teaser #3:
“Why are you doing this, Vance?” my voice quivered in anticipation.
“I’m not sure. Maybe because you need it,” he replied.

Teaser #5:
He bent to kiss me once more, holding me in his embrace for several long heated moments.
I stood on my tiptoes so I could reach him better and he wrapped his arms around me, lifting me closer. I put every ounce of my feelings into the kiss, not holding anything back, trying to show him what his declaration of love meant to me.
He answered my intensity kiss for kiss, passion for passion until soft moans werecoming from each of us.
I lost track of time and space as our mouths tangled together, tasting, touching, and sighing as need coursed thickly between us.

“Don’t you get it?” he asked me softly, his blue eyes streaked with shots of red in them staring deep into my soul. “I want all of you. I crave all of you. My body is demanding to have all of you, and my emotions are always right behind them. I’m always teetering on the brink of disaster. One second, I just want to sink my teeth into you; the next, I want to throw you down and have my way with you. It hurts to be away from you, but I think it might hurt more to be with you. If I slipped, just once, and did something bad to you, I’d never be able to forgive myself. I’ve gone too far already. That is why we’re in this mess.”
He stood up and paced away from me over to the opposite wall, which he slammed hard with his fist, causing me to jump as cracks appeared in the thick block, and I wondered if he had broken every bone in his hand.
“What do I do, Portia?” he asked quietly, without turning, hanging his head in frustration. “I’m completely out of control.”

Vance Mangum's Athame

Have you ever wondered what Vance's athame might look like?  Well here you go, courtesy of
I was so excited when Laramie came to me and said he was going to make a knife to go with my books.  He said he'd found a special piece of metal that he wanted to use for it and he set out to make a custom design for me.  I knew he did great work because I've had the opportunity to see some of his other show pieces.  They tend to get bought for a LOT of money!  One of the interesting things about Laramie's work is that he often recycles materials to work with.  He does some scouting and hiking about in the woods and comes up with old deer antlers to use as handles or interesting pieces of wood, like the knot this knife is resting on.
So can you tell what's recycled on this knife?
If you guessed the blade, then you would be correct.  The blade for this knife was made from a very old, rusty chainsaw blade which helps to give it that lovely patina.  I think Laramie tagged Vance's style right on since Vance likes to take things that are vintage and upgrade them to something new, like he does with his motorcycle.
So, thank you Laramie for the awesome athame!  I love it and I will display it proudly.

LARAMIE JACKSON

You can click the link above to visit Laramie's facebook page and see a bit of his other work! :D
Did I mention he makes lightsabers too?

Or that he wins contests dressed as Darth Maul?

What A FUN GUY!

In celebration of the release of the second edition of The Trouble With Spells, we thought we would give you a sneak peak at the book.  Here's your chance to read the new prologue!

Prologue

Vance Mangum - Two Years Earlier

I was sitting under a tree at my new school during lunch trying to avoid the silly giggles and laughter from the endless parade of idiotic girls who were trying to catch my attention. Pretending to be oblivious seemed to work best for me, so I focused on pulling random blades of grass out of the ground while I bit into the apple I had in my hand.
It's not like I wasn't interested in the girls, I definitely was. I was just tired of not ever being able to really get to know the ones I liked before I had to move to a new place again. I already missed the girl I'd been hanging around with at the school I'd just left. Amber was amazing, and she could kiss like … well, there's just no point in thinking about her kisses anymore because I would never be experiencing them again.
I hated running. I despised constantly looking over my shoulder for him to reappear, always getting so close to finding us. It was totally messing up my life. While I was already sixteen, I was only a sophomore right now. I should've been a junior, but being on the run and having to go into hiding for a while had put me a year behind in school. Hopefully this time would be different. I didn't know if I had the same faith in this new coven that my Aunt Marsha did. She seemed to think they might be able to help protect us better than we'd been able to protect ourselves lately. I guess deep down I really hoped they could because I was just so tired of running.
I took another bite of my apple while focusing on the doors to the school, successfully redirecting my gaze away from the group of girls who were twittering together off to my left.
    That's when I saw her.
She stepped out the door, walking next to some other girl, but my attention was instantly riveted on her because suddenly every emotion she was feeling at that moment washed over me. I sucked in my breath, having never experienced anything quite like this before.
This girl was different. She was magical. Literally.
The warlock inside me lifted his head in curious admiration. She was young, probably only a freshman I'd guess, but she was beautiful in a totally understated way. I was instantly drawn to her, and I glanced over her small, petite form as she moved toward the cafeteria.
A light breeze caught her black hair, stirring it slightly away from her face, and she smiled then at her friend. The current carried her laughter to me on the air, and it was musical. She was … content, happy, secure, and amused at whatever her friend was talking to her about. She was everything I was not, and I knew in that moment I had to know who she was.
“Excuse me,” I said turning to one of the girls hovering nearby, and she looked down at me with a hopeful expression. “Do you know who that girl is over there?”
I turned my head back toward the girl, but not in time to miss the crestfallen look on this one's face before she lifted her head to follow my line of sight.
“Who? The blonde?” she asked icily.
“No. The one with the black hair,” I replied, not taking my eyes off her while she walked.
“Her?” the girl replied with an incredulous tone in her voice, and I did turn back to look at her then, narrowing my eyes at her cynically. She shrank back from me for a second before squaring her shoulders and flipping her hair with one of her hands. “That's Portia Mullins,” she replied, turning away from me to whisper with her friends again.
    Portia Mullins. Oh, the irony.
I knew exactly who she was. She was the underage daughter of my new benefactor who had sworn to help protect me. She was the girl I'd been instructed not to interact with because she had no idea she was a witch or that her family was part of a magical coven. I wasn't to have any contact with her until she turned sixteen years old and found out her true heritage. That was when she would be inducted into her coven. My coven. The coven I'd willingly bound myself to and could not betray.
She lifted her head and looked right at me, and I had to fight for control while I turned my eyes away from her with what I hoped was a bored, uninterested glance. But my heart raced slightly when I felt her emotions again, her pulse picking up at the sight of me. She felt … intrigued, perhaps even attracted, but that was immediately replaced by deflation. She didn't feel worthy of my notice. If she only knew.
Portia and her friend entered the cafeteria, and even though she was gone from my sight, I could still feel her.
Unexpectedly, I became very angry. I'd found a person I'd connected with on a level I had never experienced with another living being, and I couldn't even get to know her. I suddenly felt the need to punch something.
I stood up and strode across the parking lot to where I'd left my motorcycle, knowing full well I was going to get in trouble for ditching on only my second day of school here, but I didn’t care. I did know one thing though. I was determined to stay in this place now because one way or another, I was going to get to know Portia Mullins … even if it got me killed.
